UN REFORM – DEVELOPMENT

"We w ill continue and reinforce our efforts to improve the functioning of the UN in the economic and social fields and its impact on development. We will continue to work in partnership with other members to complete processes underway, including Agenda for Development, and initiate further processes as required."

At Lyon, France proposed the establishment of a Deputy Secretary General responsible for monitoring and coordinating development issues which focused on increasing the efficiency of departments by eliminating job duplication and overlap. The Agenda for Development is on schedule.

France is in favour of an enlarged Security Council; it supports the bids of Germany and Japan to become permanent members. France is also a proponent of the idea that the Security Council should be more representative of all parts of the globe by including nations such as Brazil and India.
