"We urge the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to develop the dialogue and cooperation with the Republic of Korea (ROK), this being the only means of achieving permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and ensuring a more stable and more secure future for the Korean people."

The United Kingdom has been supportive of a lessening of tensions on the Korean peninsula. The UK has been developing closer trading relations with South Korea over the past few years and has significant economic interests in the region. It was the first country to contribute money to the Korean Energy Development Organization, a U.S.-driven initiative. The UK is a supportive ally and stands ready to assist its allies in the region, however, the UK has not directly contributed to encouraging development of a dialogue of cooperation between the Koreas and had ceded all leadership on the issue to the United States.
