Public Opinion / Approval Rating - The governing Liberal Party and its leader, Prime Minister Jean Chretien, are enjoying a high level of popularity as demonstrated by a recent Liberal Party convention's overwhelming endorsement of Mr. Chretien's leadership, and by a recent by-election in which the Liberals defeated the heavily-favored Reform Party candidate, partly due to Mr. Chretien's high-level of support.
