27. At Madrid the G-7 had advanced a proposal for an increase
in IMF SDR's, only to be met with rejection from the developing
country members. In his extensive consultations with non-G-7 countries
in the lead up to Halifax, Prime Minister Chretien drew particularly
heavily on Mexican President Zedillo's views on what the G-7 and
the IFI's could usefully do in the wake of the peso crisis.
